So it seems our little Throwback Three Line Thursday is a lovely addition to the blog here at Ink In Thirds. I would like to encourage you to spread the word and enter weekly. I will be including some of the poems from the weekly contributions in upcoming issues of Ink In Thirds Magazine, so if you’d like a chance to be published participate weekly. Also if you have a Twitter handle include it below your submission. Happy writing!
If you don’t know what TLT is all about here are the cliff notes:
- Write something that will move us! Inspired by the photo above.
- Brevity is key.
- What can you say, convey, express in only three lines? Can you paint a visual picture with only words? Tell an entire story that begs to be read? Use your imagination.
- No titles. Let’s keep it about the words.
- 10 words max per line. 3 lines.
- Post your poem in the comments and comment on others. Have fun!
All photography used for TLT purposes is licensed under Creative Commons Zero images.

When the Gods decided to have a party
They each took a sparkler

We’re curled under old sweaters,
rerunning conversations like they were black and white movies,
the lines even sweeter this time around.

Sparks fly but never land
and never last.
It will always be dark again soon.

She refills drinks, hands out sparklers,
worried he doesn’t enjoy his party –
when all he needs to enjoy anything is her.

Dandelion fire, drifting glitter
Wayward dervish, blazing briefly
Time only to dance a minute waltz

when I was a kid, I was afraid
to hold danger so close

We are but a dull stick waiting for our birth.
A match ignites, we burn brightly in our joy.
Too soon we sputter and go out.

As the sparkler lit up, so did her eyes – normally
dull, cynical, guarded, distant – a defiant orphan
turning 13, her existence celebrated – for the very first time.

In the infinity we scry and search.
Lost. We stumble in the black-ness of our hearts.
Seeking just one spark of life yet to be extinguished.

Love is a spark that ignites
The best of each other
Burning brightly in the dark.
