Take a break, get inspired, and learn a bit more about Emma Allmann. Here is our twist on an interview.
- A quote that inspires you:
- Your writing process described as a song: The Staves – Tired as Fuck
- You’re a writer so tell us with your words why you write. But please don’t bore us:
I think I write because it’s a way to force myself to thoroughly unpack and straighten out what I think about things. I like that when I write I am a step removed from the emotions that drive decisions and actions the characters are making. I can judge what they’re doing and how they’re behaving and play scenes out in a couple of different ways to find the most interesting. The process, hopefully, makes for interesting stories and definitely allows me to think through things I’ve seen and done in my own life in a more tactile and productive way.
- What is a recent story or poem you’ve had published elsewhere that we should read?
“Signs of Life ” published in Ellipsis Zine
I spent seven years in Madison learning to write, selling donuts, and going on adventures. When I graduated I packed everything into a car and traveled around the country for a few months. I’m currently sitting still for a bit in Chicago to give myself some more time to write.
See you next week, with another not-so-typical interview.
