Prose, Poetry, and Photography:
PROSE – submit up to 300 words max (1 per form).
This includes 3-word stories, drabbles, microfiction, flash, and include prose poems here. Our only real requirement: Make us feel something. Sad, fine. Tormented, better. Angst, ahh. Happy, meh will take it. Just remember to move us with your words.
POETRY – submit up to 3 poems (in one form below), no longer than 30 lines each. Also, please DO NOT put the titles in all caps in the box labeled Title on the form. It is unnecessary and distracting.
We’ll consider anything from free verse to haiku to haibun to you-name-it. Of course, we love Three Line poetry. ::insert wink:: Invented and experimental forms are always welcome. Show us something new! But we especially like mental floss, unforgettable imagery that clings to your marrow. Be different. Be unique. Be weird. Give us something to remember!
PHOTOGRAPHY – please submit photos (see below for details) directly to submissions.
We are looking for high-resolution photos. Some guidelines for print:
- all photos must be a minimum of 300 dpi
- minimum requirements for a cover photo or interior 2550 x 3300 pixels = 8.5 x 11 print (300 dpi)
- minimum requirements for full-page spread 5100 x 3300 pixels = 17 x 11 print (300 dpi)
We want vivid imagery. Even in photos. Move us with your shots. Links to websites or online portfolios are preferred. We’d love to peruse what you have available.
Rights – Ink in Thirds acquires First Publication Rights but you, the writer, still own your work. We hold the publication rights for 30 days after our issue publication. After 30 days, you are free to publish and submit your work elsewhere. We also maintain Non-exclusive Archival Rights, so we may continue to archive your work in our digital issues. If your work is published elsewhere in the future, please give a nod to Ink in Thirds as the first place it appeared.
Payment – Praise and promotion for now. But we DO want to promote you so include your personal website or blog, Twitter, and Insta info in the form below!
General Guidelines – WE DO NOT ACCEPT PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED WORK. Any work that has been posted or otherwise made publicly available online is considered to have been “previously published.” This includes blogs and social media sites. We do, however, accept simultaneous submissions. We write, too, and understand the process required to get your work published. Now go, get out there! Just be kind enough to let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Multiple Submissions – Please submit only one form for each Prose and Poetry at a time. We will read all submissions in the order in which they are received and will respond to the email address you provide (below) as fast as humanly possible. We want to give each submission the time and consideration that they deserve. We strive to respond to submissions in under a week.
You should receive a “Submission Received” email within 48 hours. If you do not receive confirmation of submission within 48 hours please query submissions before resubmitting.
